Join this outdoor survival summer program to test your outdoor skills and find out!

Campers will master the four tenets of survival: shelter, water, fire, and food. Specific skills include: outdoor cooking and safety, fire building (with friction), survival shelter-building, wild sourcing of food and medicine, knife safety, and wildcrafting!

Based on “Leave No Trace” ethics, our activities give children the confidence to explore the outdoors in a safe and meaningful way. In a “survival setting,” Running Wild campers think independently before reacting and make smart choices while being challenged. They also focus on developing life skills such as patience, respect, resiliency and teamwork.

Music on the Move I

June 26, 2017 – June 30, 2017 : 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM

This camp will offer music instruction through the world-renowned techniques of the Jaques-Dalcroze approach to music education. In this approach, all of music is explored through movement. Understanding of musical ideas is created through a direct active connection between the body, the ear, and the mind.

Session 1: Monday, June 26th – Friday, June 30th (9:00 AM – 11:30 AM)

Each day will include a session of eurhythmics in which students discover the rich vocabulary of musical ideas through guided movement activities. This will be followed by instruction in solfege and vocal exploration. A third period will focus on improvisation, guiding children to express their own musical ideas through creative performance.

Each day will close with folk dances or simple Plastique Animee. In keeping with the tradition of the Dalcroze approach, all students will need to wear athletic clothing and will be barefoot during the program in a manner similar to gymnastics or the martial arts. No prior musical training is required. Students of all musical abilities will benefit from the training offered in this program.

Music on the Move II

July 3, 2017 – July 7, 2017 : 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM

This camp will offer music instruction through the world-renowned techniques of the Jaques-Dalcroze approach to music education. In this approach, all of music is explored through movement. Understanding of musical ideas is created through a direct active connection between the body, the ear, and the mind.

Because courage and honor are timeless, the Rochester Fencing Club proudly presents five days exploring the heart of the warrior, while learning the fundamentals of foil and sabre fencing.

Fencing helps young people develop keen focus, coordination, balance, and endurance and becomes a vehicle to explore both the code of chivalry and the modern Olympic values of friendship, respect, and excellence. The legends and history of old come alive with games and drills incorporating characters such as King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, the Three Musketeers, Black Bart the pirate, Mulan, and more.

Coach Christine Griffith provides a week of safe, active, cooperative play with a different theme each day. Whether your child aims to be a knight in shining armor, a Jedi like Luke/Rey, or a Disney princess like Merida, boys and girls alike will enjoy the physical and mental challenge of learning the art of swordplay. Pittsford science teacher Jean Gefell adds hands-on science projects and crafts to balance out the day. Suitable for beginners and those with prior fencing experience.
