Unlike most of our peer schools, we have a dedicated full-time college advisor. Kristin Cocquyt’s primary focus is to support, guide, and advise AC students on their college search and application process. She has been in the field of education for 13 years and has visited over 160 colleges, giving her a solid basis for recommending colleges that are great matches for our students. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Hamilton College and is a member of both the New York State Association for College Admission Counseling and the National Association for College Admission Counseling.
What do you like most about your job?
Through my role, I have the opportunity to learn our students’ stories and help them highlight their strengths and unique experiences through the college application process. What I love about this work at AC is that our students are incredibly diverse and so are their experiences, strengths, intellectual interests, and goals. Our student talent runs deep, and their academic and extracurricular experiences at AC help them present compelling college applications.
What inspires you?
Each year I attend the National Association for College Admission Counseling’s annual conference where I am energized by the opportunity to share best practices and discuss hot topics in the college admission field with thousands of colleagues around the country.
Who is your biggest influence?
I have to thank my high school English teacher for leading me to selecting the college that was a stronger match for me than the colleges I was initially considering. She told me she would only write my letter of recommendation if I went to visit Hamilton College, so I heeded to her suggestion, and the rest is history!
