Embarking on the journey of a lifetime

It starts here.

As an independent school, we don’t teach to the test and our teachers are not bound by the Common Core. Our faculty have the freedom to think openly, logically, and independently to develop a relevant and rigorous curriculum to challenge our students to dig deeper.

Our innovative and student-centered curriculum provides students in nursery through grade 12 with purposeful experiences, a nurturing faculty support system, lifelong friendships, and endless opportunities to try new things. It is a safe space for students to discover their passions and potential. They are confident, empathetic, and well spoken in sharing their opinions and beliefs. They are prepared for college and for life.

At AC we are committed to

Social Emotional Learning

At AC, learning extends beyond the textbooks to include children’s social emotional development. Students at AC learn how to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.

Diversity & Accessibility

At AC, we are proud to be the most diverse school in Rochester, with our 340 students coming from more than 30 school districts, 50 zip codes, and nearly 15 countries across the globe, and 30% of our student body identifies as students of color. As a tuition-based school, we understand that everyone who wants to attend AC might not be able to afford it, which is why we provide more than $3 million in financial assistance to families each year.

Individualized Learning

At AC, our student-centered curriculum is based on the importance of project-based learning (PBL)— a pedagogy in which students acquire deeper knowledge through active exploration of real-world challenges and problems, rather than traditional “sage on a stage”, paper-based, rote memorization. Students have access to opportunities for independent research studies, internships, and the flexibility to create a schedule that reflects and supports their interests.

Real Work Partnerships

At AC, we believe learning is about more than what happens within the walls of our school. Through our authentic learning opportunities, we connect what students learn in the classroom to real-world issues, problems, and applications. These opportunities for relevant and engaged learning happen daily in the classroom, as well as through our Centers for Impact and our work out in the community.
