Mrs. Nita Brown, parent of Allendale Columbia School third grader Mansa Brown, visited Mrs. Ragan’s Fourth Grade World Language classes today. Mrs. Brown spoke about her rich experiences living overseas and working for the World Health Organisation, L’Organisation mondiale de la Santé. Fourth graders have been studying Switzerland as a cultural addition to their regular World Language French language class this quarter.
Mrs. Brown graduated from Columbia University with a History major but took French to fulfill Liberal Arts requirements. She later went to business school at Georgetown University. Her combined interests in foreign languages and financial skills have taken her all around the world until landing here in Rochester, NY employed in international treasury work at Kodak.
Mrs. Brown, currently a Project Manager for the Rochester City School District, spent several summers working for two doctors at the Headquarters of the WHO and commuting to her home in France. Students saw wonderful bilingual slides that Mrs. Brown had prepared and learned more about how learning a second language can open doors for employment and create friendships around the globe.
