Students in the Middle School Ceramics elective and the Upper School 3-D Art elective have been working diligently to create bowls to be auctioned off at our event next month. Each bowl is handmade by an Allendale Columbia student with a few very special bowls donated by local artists! The bowls will be available for purchase by silent auction with a raffle for one very special bowl to be revealed at our event!
The Middle School organizers chose Hillside Special Santas as their charity to donate proceeds to. Ciarra Franz (Class of 2021) explains, “we decided on this charity because we want to help kids our age to have a better holiday season.” Students will use the proceeds from this event to shop for items on a wish list provided by Hillside.
If you are interested in volunteering to help out with our event we created a sign up. We are looking for donations of bowls, spoons, and homemade soup. We will also need parent volunteers for the event. It is exciting to partner up with the closing of the Upper School Production of Little Shop of Horrors. We hope you can join us for the Empty Bowls event and stay for the musical!

Yesterday the kindergarten hosted the annual Kindergarten Bake Sale to benefit the Hillside Special Santas program. This event, which has been in existence for over 30 years, is a favorite among current and former students, faculty, staff and parents. The kindergarten collects donations of baked goods and sells them to the AC community to earn money for a shopping trip to Target. The kindergarteners put together lists of things that kids their age might need and want and use those lists, and the money they earned, to buy items for children in need. The Hillside Special Santas program helps thousands in our community and we are honored to be a small part of this effort.
