A few Allendale Columbia Lower School kindergarten and second grade girls, with guidance from Enrichment Specialist Martha Bjorklund, submitted essays and pictures to the 4th Annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day Essay Contest, presented by St. John Fisher College. Second Grader, Phoenix Herlong, was awarded honorable mention for her grade level. Great job Phoenix!

It is important to play sports because it makes you healthy. In roller skating I started out really wobbly but I got some advice from my mom and dad. Now I don’t go step by step  I just go side by side. Roller skating is really really fun and I wish I could do it everyday. When I ice skate I go really fast and I don’t fall down as much as everyone else. There was a  deep water spot at the rink and a person accidentally fell in, but I avoided it. One time I tried carrying my brother but we fell down because he is heavy. You don’t get old if you do sports.
