AC Parent/Caregiver Affinity Groups are designed to facilitate the following:
Discuss issues that support AC's diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and priorities
Hold space to identify issues relevant to and through the lens of group participants
Build capacity for cross group dialogue and more inclusive spaces
Connect issues relevant to the groups to the larger community
The affinity groups are not intended to imply that all families share the same experience. Rather, the groups provide the opportunity for reflection, dialogue, and support, and the capacity to build more inclusive spaces.
We are thrilled to host our third annual AC Speak Up! Forum on April 9, centered around the theme: Building a Community of Accountability and Belonging. This student-led event empowers students to share their thoughts, opinions, and experiences in a brave and open space. With student facilitators leading the meaningful dialogue and faculty support, we are fostering meaningful conversations that strengthen our school community. Regular classes will not be in session, but student attendance is expected. We don't want to miss any student's contribution to the day. Stay tuned for more updates—let’s come together to listen, learn, and grow!
AC is invited to McQuaid’s 2nd social justice annual “Boosting Belonging” summit. It is a full day of gathering to connect and uplift members of the Black Student Unions and associations, advisors, school administrators, and allies that support them as they fight for equity and justice. Guest speakers: Karen Iglesia of PrimeTime585 and Tiffany Porter of Being Black in the Burbs and the Fairport Coalition.
The Outreach Recorder Ensemble will perform for the Lower School. This will act as a professional demonstration of recorder playing for students who are in Lower School Music classes and may be learning to play recorder currently or in the future.
The Class Forum is an established Allendale Columbia School tradition introduced by the headmistress of the Columbia school, Mrs. Della Simpson, in 1946 to help students practice making arguments about current issues and to give the school community the opportunity to have a civil discussion about sensitive topics.
Join DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging) PACK (Parents of AC Kids) us for a working session where parents and caregivers collaborate, share ideas, and strengthen our network across divisions. This is a great opportunity to build connections, discuss ways to support AC’s continuous improvement, and help shape meaningful initiatives that benefit all students. We hope to see you there as we work together to create a stronger, more inclusive community!
Once a month the AC3 and Pre-K students wear a specific color or pattern as they learn about different colors, shapes and patterns in their classrooms. Please join us in helping our youngest students celebrate the color or pattern of the month and wear what's specified in the calendar listing above!
At Allendale Columbia, we prepare students for the world they will inherit. In our trusting and responsive environment, students 18 months through grade 12 grow in confidence and develop scholastic independence.
