AC Little School

Allendale Columbia’s Little School is a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment that provides children 18-36 months-old with an early childhood education based on our Reggio Emilia-inspired approach. Through our approach, children are encouraged to follow their natural curiosity and to investigate, explore, and experiment in the world around them. Through a combination of curriculum and guided projects, new ideas and topics are introduced to foster a love of learning. Learn more about the AC Little School.

Nursery School and Pre-Kindergarten

Nursery school and pre-kindergarten students take important first steps toward academic learning as they transition to the big school PPcampus, experience routines, learn to follow directions, and participate in something larger than themselves. We encourage each child’s natural curiosity through age appropriate, interest-driven exploration of S.T.R.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) studies through very project-minded and collaborative approaches. For children that demonstrate readiness, we encourage the development of early literacy skills.  In pre-kindergarten we offer the foundation of Reading Workshop, giving every student an individualized and differentiated approach to reading instruction.  At AC, Reading and Writing Workshop continues through the early elementary years as well.

PP2We focus on the learning process, encouraging children to ask questions, find solutions, and make decisions. Students learn to play cooperatively with others and use technological tools as they become more independent in their thinking and activities. Above all, we support and celebrate our students’ every step as they develop into unique, confident, self-aware individuals. We appreciate the partnership with our parents and invite parents and special friends to collaborate with us when exploring areas of interest.

To be eligible to enroll in our nursery or pre-kindergarten programs, children must be three or four years old, respectively, on, or before December 1st in the year in which they’re enrolling.

Nursery School and Pre-Kindergarten Special Events

From Color Days to the celebration of international holidays and traditions, the special events in the Pre-Primary years can vary. Nursery and pre-kindergarten students also have reading partners in second and fourth grade, and participate in school-wide events with AC spirit and enthusiasm.
